Neveda - Bikers Meeting Worries Boulder City

OFF THE WIRE
Boulder City is bracing for visitors that have some people concerned. A national gathering of the Mongols Motorcycle Club will take place in the town this weekend. In response, city leaders are holding a special meeting Tuesday.
As many as 400 members of the motorcycle club will be in town for the national conference. The meeting is sparking concern because members of the club were involved with the 2002 fight at the Laughlin River Run that left three people dead.
There was also a fight between members of the Mongols and the Hells Angels at a Las Vegas wedding chapel in 2008. The Hells Angels are expected to meet in Las Vegas this weekend. However, a spokesman for the Mongols says the clubs have a truce in place for events like this.
The Boulder City Police have reached out to other law enforcement agencies around southern Nevada to help re-enforce their ranks, which consists of only 32 officers. Officers from Metro, North Las Vegas and Henderson Police will be on patrol with Boulder City Police to keep the peace.
While some people are concerned about the visit by the motorcycle club, others feel there will not be any trouble.
“It is like anyone else, everywhere else. If you break the law, you are going to pay for it. If they come here, have a peaceful visit. They are with family and friends. I have no problem with it at all," Boulder City resident Gary Wilson said.
Some area businesses are looking forward to the boost in customers. Hotels are booked. Restaurants like the Coffee Cup have stocked up on supplies in anticipation of the crowds. The restaurant says bikers are some of their best customers. The staff says they are respectful, and they tip big.
The special community meeting is 6 p.m. Tuesday at Boulder City Hall.
