The Riverside Police Department, in an effort to reduce motorcycle accidents, will have extra officers on the streets Friday, June 15, to patrol areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur.
Officers will be looking for drivers and riders who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Riverside Sgt. Skip Showalter said in a news release. Officers will crack down on traffic violations made by motorcyclists as well as other vehicle drivers that can lead to motorcycle collisions, injuries and fatalities.
In a five year span from 2006 to 2010, Riverside had nine fatalities and 276 injuries from motorcycle crashes, the release said.
