About 3:30 a.m., police were called to the Kumasi Motorcycle Club on Central Avenue in the West End. Many shots were heard both inside and outside the club. When they got there, they found a man slumped in the doorway. He was taken to University Hospital where he died.

The victim has been identified as 26 year-old James Boots. After speaking with members of his family, we learned that before Boots left to go out, he told his grandmother that he loved her. She said it sounded like he was never going to see her again . . .

The president of the Kumasi Motorcycle Club said the people involved in the shootout planned ahead. He says they cut a lock on a back entrance to get the weapons into the club. He said an argument ensued inside and the armed men moved from the backroom toward the front door and eventually outside. That's when many people started shooting.

Police recovered more than 30 shell casings from the scene. Members of Boots family seemed to be aware something was going to happen because many of them were also at the Kumasi when the incident happened. Police are still trying to determine what led up to the violence and identify who was involved. They have not publicly released the names of any official suspects in Boots' murder.
