They had loaded weapons, body armour, balaclavas and were arrested wearing the insignia of the Hells Angels.
RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle at about 10 p.m. Thursday on the Trans Canada Highway near Salmon Arm.
Staff Sergeant Kevin Keane says an odour of marijuana was detected from the vehicle, prompting the arrest of four men.
“A subsequent search located the following items: several firearms, including a sawed off shotgun, a large quantity of ammunition and three handguns. In addition to these items were body armour (bullet proof vest), baseball bat, axe handle, knives, bear spray and a radio jamming device designed to block outgoing transmissions. Loaded weapons were all within reach of the vehicle’s occupants,” says Keane.
He says all the men are associated with the Hells Angels and were sporting insignia of the Hells Angels organization.
“These persons were also in possession of black balaclavas. The intention of these persons in the community of Salmon Arm is currently unknown.”
Keane says the men remain in police custody.
At least one of the men arrested is from Kelowna.
