USA - NHTSA - 14,000 Motorcycle helmets declared unsafe..........

OFF THE WIRE
NHTSA:
What's wrong with this picture??? Nowhere else in society would it be mandated the people comply and wear a piece of so called safety equipment that's not been proven safe!  The articles below are just the tip of the iceberg... whereas they're only testing around 4% of all helmet manufactured that carry the DOT sticker, how many more do you think are unsafe??? Do the math!!

They just don't get it~ do they?

14,000 Motorcycle helmets declared unsafe

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is warning motorcyclists not to use a particular type of helmet because it fails to meet government standards.
As many as 14,000 5X5/SA-08 helmets were imported and sold by Tank Sports, Inc., of California, which declared bankruptcy without completing a recall requested by NHTSA.
These  helmets are no longer being sold in the U.S. but the NHTSA is warning some people may have them. The helmets failed to meet the penetration protection requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 218. And according to the NHTSA, both the outer shell and the inner liner in three out of four helmets were penetrated in safety tests.
The agency is unaware of any deaths or injuries involving the helmets. However, it is warning consumers if you have one to stop using it immediately.
NHTSA reminds riders to always wear a Department of Transportation-compliant helmet and other protective gear. Helmets in particular are highly effective in reducing fatalities and injuries -- saving the lives of more than 1,500 motorcyclists in 2010 alone.
