Greenwood, SC - Bikers Hit the Road for Babies

In Greenwood, on June 12th die-hard bikers and weekend warriors will ride together to raise urgently needed funds to help every baby to be born healthy. Lake Greenwood Motorcycle Ride for the Babies will start at Bi-Lo on Bypass 72 NE in Greenwood from 9AM until 11AM. The last bike in at 3PM at The Dock Bar and Grill on Lake Greenwood. This Lake Greenwood Motorcycle Ride for the Babies Poker Run is being put on by Mona McKinney.
Individual riders as well as motorcycle clubs will hit the road to help support March of Dimes research and programs to help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. This is the third year that the Greenwood Community will have a Lake Greenwood Motorcycle Ride for the Babies event put on by McKinney. In Greenwood funds raised by Lake Greenwood Motorcycle Ride for the Babies supports chapter-wide initiatives.

In 2009 the South Carolina March of Dimes has invested 1.5 million dollars in program services, including research grants and local community services. Through these grants, the March of Dimes is seeking ways to prevent birth defects and infant death, reduce South Carolina’s increasing premature birth rate, increase access to prenatal care and educate men and women about having healthy babies.
Mona McKinney, 2011 Lake Greenwood Motorcycle Ride for the Babies coordinator says, “Seeing the riders set out together in support of the smallest members of our community, is always an incredible sight. The roar of the bikes moving in unison speaks to the power this group has to help babies.”
During registration meet Dillon Greenway, this year’s March of Dimes Ambassador for the Greenwood Area while enjoying coffee and donuts compliments of Bi-Lo. Enter a drawing for a prize contributed by Bi-Lo's manager, Todd Adkins. The first bike out leaves at 10 a.m. with the last bike leaving at 11:15 a.m. headed for Price's Garage & Wrecker Service in Ninety Six. The second stop is The Hash House in Troy. Third stop Penny Hill Station in Abbeville, forth stop Walt's Wurl Famous Hotdogs in Hodges then to the finish at The Dock for the grand finale where pizza and cola will be served while you enjoy live entertainment from Lockaby Hall & Mojo. The distance of the ride is approximately 100 miles.
The last bike is due in by 3PM with a Silent Auction in progress. Prizes awarded at 4PM include: Prizes for Best and Worst hand, Ticket to Ride Prizes and door prizes. T-shirts will be available and March of Dimes bandanas and bracelets.
