SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. -- Two juveniles were arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on Sunday after the pair allegedly shot at two motorcyclists on state Highway 35 in unincorporated San Mateo County.
Deputies responded to Highway 35 near Kings Mountain Road in unincorporated Woodside at around 3:10 p.m. after a woman reported being shot in the hand with a metal pellet while riding her motorcycle through the area, San Mateo County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Ray Lunny said.
The pellet hit her hand and went entirely through her ring finger, Lunny said. Another motorcyclist was shot in the knee.
Both victims were hospitalized, and neither were able to tell investigators who shot them.
Two deputies and a K-9 unit searched the area and found two juveniles on the east side of Highway 35 near 13100 Skyline Blvd.
The two allegedly admitted to firing an air rifle at passing motorcyclists on the highway.
One of the suspects was booked at the San Mateo County Youth Service Center for assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited motor vehicle, and projecting a metal object at a vehicle to cause bodily injury.
The second suspect apparently made suicidal statements related to being caught committing the shooting and was taken to the San Mateo County Hospital for a 72-hour mental health observation.
The hospital was instructed to contact the sheriff's office upon releasing the patient.
Anyone with information regarding the shootings is asked to contact San Mateo County Sheriff's Detective Jim Gilletti at (650) 363-4066
