Australia - Drug dealer not guilty of Rebels murder..

OFF THE WIRE

Not guilty of murder: Russell Field shortly after the shooting (ACT Policing)
A Canberra man who shot dead two people, including a senior Rebels Motorcycle Club member in his backyard, has been found not guilty of murder.
Russell Field shot Gregory Peter Carrigan and Rebels bikie Richard John Roberts when the two men knocked on the door of his garage in Chisholm in March 2009.
The 22-year-old said he acted in self defence, saying his family had previously received death threats from the Rebels after he broke up with a woman who had been in relationships with both of the dead men.
Chief Justice Terence Higgins found the 22-year-old not guilty of two counts of murder.
Justice Higgins said Field's self-defence argument was reasonable and said he had no doubt Field was in a state of fear and terror of the two men at the time of the shootings.
Field watched the proceedings from prison.
The prosecution then arraigned him on a charge of cultivating a traffickable quantity of cannabis.
Field pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a year in prison but will be released immediately having spent almost two years in custody.
Last week, a woman who fatally stabbed a man in Kingston was also acquitted of murder. No-one has been convicted of murder in Canberra since 1998.
