Romeoville man sent airborne in fatal motorcycle crash SUN-TIMES MEDIA Nov 9, 2010 11:11:10AM
A Romeoville man was sent flying through the air after his motorcycle hit a big pothole and he landed in the path of another vehicle in a fatal crash in a Chicago neighborhood Monday.
Carlo Kintanar, 31, of the 1000 block of Redondo Drive in Romeoville was riding southbound in the 2600 block of Damen Avenue at about 11:57 a.m. when he hit a large pothole and was ejected from his bike, according to Chicago police news affairs officer Robert Perez.
As he was ejected forward from his bike, he landed in front of another moving vehicle also going south in another lane, Perez said.
The motorcyclist’s helmet came off during the crash and ended up underneath the other vehicle, however, he was not run over by the vehicle, Perez said.
Kintanar was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 9:25 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
The crash happened on a small roadway through an industrialized area that is also undergoing construction, which may explain the large pot holes in that stretch, Perez said.
Major Accidents Investigation Unit determined the other vehicle’s driver is not at fault because that vehicle stayed in the the correct lane and attempted to stop. No citations or charges are expected, Perez said.
