Bikers Young and Old Ride for Good Cause

OFF THE WIRE
Riders of all ages and ability hit the road last month through the Noosa countryside to raise funds for Sunshine Coast Charity and Disability Service “Sunshine Butterflies” .

For the third year running, the Noosa Charity Motor Bike ride departed from the Noosa AFL grounds weaving their way through Doonan, Cooroy, Kenilworth and Imbil and finishing in Kin Kin.

Bikes of all class and chrome joined forces with Curtis Walsh who lead the noisy entourage of bikers in support of Sunshine Butterflies flight to provide services to babies, kids, teens, tweens and adults with a disability as well as to their families.

15year old Curits Walsh, born with cerebral palsy was able to participate in the ride this year thanks to James Loughran from Wheel Adventures.

Situated on the Sunshine Coast, the Wheel Adventures modified machine gives those with a disability the opportunity to hit the open roads and enjoy the same pleasures by riding alongside the motor bike in a side car that securely accommodates a wheelchair.

Curtis’s Mother, Leanne Walsh who is the Founder of the Charity said that it was an obvious choice that Curtis or anyone else with a disability should lead the ride each year seeing its in support of ability not disability which was clearly displayed on the day.

Enjoyed by over 200 bike enthusiasts, the annual ride raised the charity $3000. Money raised will go towards various programs that many families and individuals heavily rely on to receive information, support, services and advice.

Also benefiting from this fundraising initiative is the Sunshine Butterflies Swim and Rec Club which allows kids with disabilities the opportunity to learn to swim, become water wise or use as an alternate form of therapy or relaxation.

The club which meets and swims each Sunday morning, is currently sponsored by Suncare Community Services & Qclad Pty Ltd and looking to gain recurrent funding to enable the club to continue running a great program that benefits the whole family.
