AUSTRALIA - Firebomb attack on Nomads bikxx club in Newcastle

SIMMERING tensions between rival bikie gangs has spread to Newcastle - where the Nomads clubhouse was firebombed in the latest violent incident in a tit-for-tat feud.

Police are investigating the attack at the Nomads northern region chapter in Islington, set alight early yesterday.

Senior police sources last night denied there was a "bikie war" and said they were confident the attack on the Nomads clubhouse was the result of an ongoing feud between members of the two gangs over recent defections, known as "patching over".

Emergency fire brigade crews were called to the fortress-like compound on Chinchen St just before 2.30am and found one of the clubhouse buildings well alight.

An accelerant appeared to have been used, police said.

The arson attack comes just a week after a series of drive-by shootings across Sydney's west, which police believe were part of a tit-for-tat war between the two gangs.

Several Nomads members turned up at the building yesterday, furious that their clubhouse had been attacked.

"Here we go again," one member said.
