OFF THE WIRE
The Associated Press
SAN ANTONIO — Police say an armed man set his house on fire and led officers on a two-county motorcycle chase before police gunfire cut him down.
A San Antonio police statement says officers went to the house on the city's northwest side Thursday morning and found the man standing on the roof, armed with a handgun and a samurai sword.
After setting fire to the house, he fled on a motorcycle, starting a low-speed police chase 25 miles into Boerne (BUR'-nee). There, according to the police statement, the motorcyclist stopped and pointed the gun at officers. San Antonio and Boerne police opened fire, killing the man.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus identified the motorcyclist as 31-year-old Tavan Cullum.
