Police get motorcycles to boost patrols

The motorized patrol division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has received a major boost with the addition of eight motorcycles to its fleet.

Valued at some $3.5 million, the motorcycles donated by the CARRERAS Group Limited, were handed over on Tuesday December 21 at the Commissioner's Office on Old Hope Road in Kingston. This donation brings to 13, the number of motorcycles donated to the force by the CARRERAS Group since last year.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Minister of National Security, Senator Hon. Dwight Nelson, said the motorcycles will assist the JCF in its "quick response capabilities."

"Bikes have become a critical tool in the modern policing activities of the force. CARRERAS latest donation of motorcycles is particularly useful in light of the focus of the police to penetrate communities and have access to urban centres as we tackle crime within the context of community policing," he said.

Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington, said the capacity of the motorized division will be strengthened as it relates to the quick response of the teams, which are primarily focused on protecting commercial districts.

For his part, Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Manager, CARRERAS Group, Christopher Brown, said the donation supports the crime prevention measures, adding that "crime prevention and national security is everybody's business."
