Pittsburgh officer charged in fatal Sept. crash
Associated Press - December 26, 2010
PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh police officer has turned himself in to face charges of vehicular homicide and drunk driving in the death of a woman killed when he crashed his motorcycle earlier this year.
Twenty-8-year-old Adam Lewis was at the Allegheny County Jail on Thursday. He was charged the day before in the death of a friend who was riding on the back of his motorcycle at the time of the crash.
Investigators say the off-duty officer was drunk when he gave 28-year-old Jessica Lojak a ride following a bachelorette party for Lewis' fiance. Authorities say Lewis crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into a sport utility vehicle.
Lewis' attorney says the accident has been a tragedy for everyone involved.
Lewis is on leave from the Pittsburgh police department. He was being held at the jail on $25,000 unsecured bond.
