OFF THE WIRE
Drivers who don't adhere to a new hands-free cellphone law can expect to go phone-free for a full day. Starting on Monday, Cape Town, South Africa says that drivers have to use a hands-free device if they're using a cellphone in the car and cannot be holding a phone with "one or both hands or with any other part of the body" (which makes us wonder exactly what else they've been using to press a phone against their ears). Anyone caught with a phone in their hand can face a fine of $607 and -- in perhaps the most powerful deterrent of all -- their phone will be confiscated for up to a full 24 hours. Either way, that text will have to wait.
