PPD: Several crackdown operations on tap

August 25, 2011 THE RECORDER
THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER Over the next month, the Porterville Police Department plans to conduct a motorcycle enforcement operation, driving under the influence/driver’s license checkpoint, and several DUI roving saturation patrols.
The specialized motorcycle safety operation will be conducted on Aug. 27 and again on Sept. 3.
Motorists can expect extra officers on duty, patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes are known to occur, the PPD reports.
Police will also be on the lookout for drivers and riders who are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and for traffic violations made by motorcyclists as well as other motorists that can cause motorcycle collisions, injuries, or fatalities.
From 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Saturday the PPD Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint within city limits, and saturation patrols will also be deployed.
According to a PPD news release, these enforcement efforts are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
