Gangs Squad detectives have charged an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) member following investigations into the alleged theft of 12 motor vehicles from a Sydney car yard in 2009.
About 9.15am today (Monday 9 May 2011), a 31-year-old man was arrested by detectives at Surry Hills Police Station.
It is alleged the man is a member of the Comanchero Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.
He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with robbery in company and participate in a criminal group. He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.
Strike Force Eastbourne comprises detectives from State Crime Command’s Gangs Squad and was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the theft of the cars from a holding yard on Shepherd Street, Liverpool, on 14 February 2009.
It’s alleged a group of 13 men entered the holding yard before assaulting three employees, locking one of them in the boot of a car and the others in a separate vehicle.
The group then allegedly stole keys from the premises before driving off with a dozen cars. Police will allege the total estimated value of the stolen vehicles was $500,000.
All 12 of the stolen vehicles have been recovered by police and to date a total of 11 people have been charged for the alleged offence by Strike Force Eastbourne detectives.
