Australia, Security beefed up for bikie murder trial

Heavy security is expected to be in place at the ACT Supreme Court today for the first day in the murder trial of Russell Norman Field.
Field is accused of shooting dead two people, including a senior figure within a local chapter of the Rebels motorcycle gang outside his Chisholm home on March 24 last year.

Richard ''Rebel Rick'' Roberts and Gregory Peter Carrigan were gunned down in Couchman Crescent just after 3pm.


Roberts was the sergeant-at-arms of the southern Canberra chapter of the Rebels.


Both Carrigan and Field had previously had relationships with Roberts' then partner.

Field has been held in solitary confinement for his own protection since his arrest nearly 18 months ago.


Representatives from the Supreme Court, ACT Policing and each legal team have been in discussions for several weeks over security arrangements for the trial.
