Tourism board receives request from motorcycle rally organizers

Organizers of a summer motorcycle rally envision it becoming an annual event that could draw thousands of riders to Corbin.
The American Freedoms Motorcycle Rally will be held June 30 through July 4 at The Arena at The David L. Williams Southeastern KY AG & Expo Complex.
During Monday’s Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission board meeting, rally organizers Mark Creech and Larry Siler talked about the potential for the local event to grow, drawing comparisons to motorcycle rallies held in Sturgis, S.D. and Myrtle Beach, Fla.
Siler assured board members the local event would be “family friendly” and that the demographics of motorcyclists have shifted.
“They’re mostly professionals that ride,” Siler said.
Creech said the event is drawing community support but asked the board for $5,310 for advertising. Chairwoman Suzie Razmus said the board would consider the request.
