Biker Rights Issues
Winners of the ABATE Chili Cookoff were Steve Myers, left, for the best tasting chili and Tammi Chapman for the hottest chili. (Special to The Times)
The Seventh Annual Chili Cookoff and Pool/Dart Tournament sponsored by ABATE of Colorado, District One, was held Sunday, Feb. 21.
A mini-poker run started at the Queen Lounge in Fort Morgan and ended at The Place in Hillrose. There were 13 participants in the mini-poker run, which had just the two stops to draw five cards.
The winner of the poker run was Laura Greene with Bill Smith taking second. Both winners donated their winnings to the Randy Run, an event sponsored by ABATE of Colorado in June to raise funds for fallen bikers. Total participation in the event was 58, which included 11 in the pool tournament, six in the dart tournament and seven who made chili for the cookoff.
Judges for the chili cookoff were Dale Colerick, Missy Trout and Don Brainard. The two winners were Tammi Chapman with the hottest chili and Steve Myers with the best tasting. Each winner was presented with a cash prize and an engraved ladle. These winners also donated their prize money to the Randy Run for fallen bikers.
The pool tournament winners were Jesse Loma Jr. in first place and Don Brainard in second. Darts were won by Garry Chapman and Jonny.
Music was provided by TNT from Brush.
Dave Cawley, ABATE of Colorado District One representative, told the crowd that their participation and support of District One was much appreciated. Money raised from this event benefits ABATE of Colorado and District One. Proceeds from the 50/50 drawing benefited the Randy Run. ABATE of Colorado is a 501(c)3 nonprofit motorcycle rights organization dedicated to preserving freedom of the road, uniting motorcyclists, promoting fair legislation, safety and rider education and providing a network for communication on issues affecting motorcyclists.
