Here are the 13 reports of police misconduct tracked in our National Police Misconduct News Feed for this weekend, December 18-19, 2010:
Eastern Pike Regional police officers in Pennsylvania are the subject of a lawsuit claiming they refused to call paramedics or even examine a man when his parents told officers that he had stopped breathing after the officers had allegedly beat then handcuffed him. He was dead when paramedics finally arrived. [3]

At least two New York NY police officers are the subject of a lawsuit filed by a lawyer claiming that officers broke into his home, tackled him, then forcefully took him to a hospital to have him committed when they mistook his smoke break that he takes while sitting on his 12-foot high window ledge for a suicide attempt… I guess they took Vonnegut too literally. [3]

A Newnan GA police officer has been sentenced to 60 years in prison on 13 counts of molestation, enticement & violation of oath involving an underage girl he met at martial arts classes. [0]

Oklahoma City OK settled a lawsuit for $30,000 to a woman arrested in front of her grandchildren due to a typo on an arrest report that, in part, relied on a fake name a suspect gave to police. [0]

Minneapolis MN settled a lawsuit for $80,000 to a police officer claiming he was removed from the Metro Gang Task Force for reporting abuses by officers in that group which was later disbanded due to those abuses. [0]

Norfolk VA police are reviewing their policies after a high school student who is also the star quarterback was brought to school in handcuffs because a police officer mistakenly though he was truant, but didn’t check before embarrassing him in front of the entire school. [0]

A US Customs agent has been arrested in part of a large drug trafficking ring bust on charges alleging he smuggled and laundered drug money and that he smuggled weapons on a plane. [0]

Memphis TN police officials apparently admitted to forgetting about consent order filed in 1978 that restricts police practices regarding information gathering on people for political reasons, which may affect how they’ve been working with the feds in regards post 9/11 spying. [2]

A Cameron County TX deputy has pled guilty to accepting bribes in exchange for using his position to help smuggle weapons into Mexico. [0]

A Detroit MI police officer has been indicted on federal wire fraud and bank fraud charges for role in a mortgage fraud scheme. [0]

A Frankfort KY police officer has resigned after being arrested on a drunk driving charge when he was stopped by police who reported that he was swerving and had almost hit another motorist. [0]

A Durham NC police officer has been arrested on a drunk driving charge and this is actually his second DUI arrest since November 2009. Oddly, the reports first indicated that the person was still employed as an officer but now police are saying he’s a former officer, though they won’t say when he stopped being an officer and why… so I don’t know, for now I’m treating this as if he resigned after the second arrest since there’s no indication otherwise. [0]

And finally, a Maryland State natural resources police officer rewarded two good Samaritans for saving a struggling deer from icy water by giving them summonses because they didn’t wear life jackets when they did it. [0]

That’s it for today, stay safe out there.
