GRAND HAVEN, MI ,Unlicensed Woman to be Sentenced in Biker’s Death...

OFF THE WIRE
GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC News) - As a 48-year-old Holland woman learns her fate this afternoon, the circumstances that led to her being behind the wheel on a fateful day this past spring are not that unusual.
Angel Heisler had moved to Michigan from Illinois a year ago, and even though her driver’s license from the Land of Lincoln had been suspended, she apparently never applied for a permit to motor legally in the Great Lakes State. On June 9th, authorities say that Heisler was attempting to turn left from 136th Avenue near Riley Street into a driveway, but pulled in front of a motorcycle heading in the opposite direction. The subsequent collision killed the biker, 49-year-old Bob Wright, and seriously injured his passenger, 34-year-old Lisa Dagsen.
The fact that Heisler was even on the road at all despite not being licensed wasn’t surprising to Holland District Court Judge Bradley Knoll, who says that this is something he sees “on a daily basis,” but he insists that there are no excuses for those who drive without a license.
In a deal with prosecutors nearly six weeks ago, Heisler did not contest charges of vehicular homicide and driving with a suspended license causing injury, with a more serious count of driving with a suspended license causing death dismissed. Instead of getting up to 15 years in prison, Heisler may receive up to five years behind bars when Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Ed Post hands down his sentence.
