As we enter the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Muslims are preparing to fast from sun up to run down. And, according to reports, it appears the United States soldiers may be forced to do the same.
According to reports, cultural advisers have spent weeks educating our soldiers about Ramadan. Ali Hassan briefed about 150 personnel about Islam. And in order to honor the holiday, American service men and women are expected not to smoke, drink, drink coffee, or eat in the daylight anywhere off base.
Although some believe that they are just attempting to respect the cultural environment, it is a bit disconcerting to think that our soldiers are being forced to practice a religion—even if it isn’t happening on our ground.
