City working to remove motorcycle gang at storefront

The Portage Police Department recently discovered The Invaders Motorcycle Club has set up a storefront at 6720 U.S. 20, the former Smoke Shop. According to a release from the Portage mayor’s office, the club is in violation of city code for failing to apply for an occupancy permit, and this is being addressed with the property owners and through the city’s protocol.

“We had suspected they were meeting at that location on weekends,” Police Chief Troy Williams said in the release, but now the group, which police described as a motorcycle gang, has posted a sign officially marking the location. “There is no permitted use in the city of Portage for a motorcycle gang to occupy commercial or residential space,” Williams said.
