Kurt Explains It All
Kurt Sutter, the producer of the hit sensation Sons of Anarchy, will debut a new show on the Discovery Channel May 14 at 10 p.m on the two coasts. The “reality” show will be called Kurt Sutter’s Outlaw Empires and it promises that “behind the America you know lies another world, where people live outside the law.”
What is most astounding about this promise is that apparently Sutter will divulge the previously unrevealed secret of how it might still be possible to live inside the law in America. The police must be in a panic over this. Most modern policing is based on the premise that everybody is guilty of something.

The Press Release

The official press release for the show, from which ten thousand puff pieces will bloom, goes on to explain that “Steered by Sutter’s compelling insight, each episode of Kurt Sutter’s Outlaw Empires tells the complete story of an iconic American outlaw dynasty – directly from the mouths of people from the inside. Through their no-holds-barred accounts, the series takes an unvarnished look at moment-by-moment experiences that were not only pivotal for the organizations themselves, but life-changing for the individuals telling the stories.”
So get your popcorn ready because here comes more grainy surveillance footage from Harrah’s in 2002. Whether Sutter’s footage will actually show ATF undercover agents bringing weapons in through the back of the casino or whether that part will have to be dramatically reenacted is not made clear in the release.
Sutter explains to the author of the release: “I’ve made a career writing about fictitious anti-heroes. To create these worlds, I’ve spent a lot of time with active members on both sides of the law. And if I had to pick the most interesting of the two, the choice is obvious – we all love the guys in black. This isn’t about making a judgment call on who’s good or bad. As a storyteller, I’m drawn to these personal, intimate accounts of why these men made the choices they made, and what it’s like to be a member of an outlaw organization.”
KSOE is being produced by Sutterink and Studio Lambert. So far the show has five executive producers and two co-executive producers. Sutter appears to be Il Capo dei Capi.

The Episodes

The show will air at least six episodes. Empires scheduled to be reality-ized include “The Crips,” but not the Bloods; “The Irish Mob,” by which Sutter seems to mean the Winter-Hill Gang, “The Nuestra Familia” which the release explains is “a Latin Group,” “The Italian Mafia,” described as “the most notorious crime family in America;” and “The Aryan Brotherhood.” A spokesman for Sutterink was unavailable to explain whether Discovery will now begin marketing temporary shamrock tattoos.
The sixth episode will feature “Outlaw Bikers.” Sutter has learned that “Two generations of veterans returned from war to an America they no longer fit into. So they banded together around motorcycles, and spawned an outlaw dynasty that endures to this day.” Now you know. too.
Outlaw Empires not dramatized in the show’s initial run include The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; The Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Department of Justice; The Department of Homeland Security; and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Do you smell that? Do you what that smell is? That smell is money. Cha-ching!
