OFF THE WIRE

United Kingdom - GANGSTER "Dodgy" Dave Courtney buried his murdered stepson at a mobster funeral then declared: "His killer was probably there today." The underworld legend and shattered relatives, including gunned-down Genson's mum Jenny, wept as he was laid to rest in a spectacular send-off.
Old-school villains joined friends, prominent gangland figures, feared street gangs and the notorious Outlaws biker mob for the emotional service.
But as thousands paid their respects on Thursday there was huge tension in the air amid mounting fears of tit-for-tat attacks.
The Daily Star Sunday – invited exclusively to the funeral in South-East London – can reveal that associates and pals of cagefighter Genson reckon hardman Dave, 53, was behind the execution.
But the bullet-headed gangster, who was shielded by minders on the day, insists he had nothing to do with the murder and slammed: "Someone is out there that killed my f**king child."
Genson, 22, nicknamed "G-Man", died after being ambushed and shot in the head as he sat in his VW Golf outside his girlfriend's home in July.
Distraught Dave, who is not a suspect in the police probe, revealed: "Everyone thinks we've got closure now the funeral's done and he's buried.
"But that's not fucking closure. Someone out there has shot my child and got away with it. I'm not saying I'm gonna run around all vigilante but all this needs to be sorted.
"I cannot close my eyes because I've got so much running round in my head. I'm in a trance.
"Genson knew a lot of people in his world and I do believe that the person who did it or ordered it would have been at his funeral today."
It is believed Genson was shot dead for robbing low-level drug dealers in his home district of Greenwich, south-east London.
But sources loyal to the lad's gang claim Dave ordered a hit after Genson beat him in a "straightener" – a fight over a family fall-out.
The gangster dismissed the claims as nonsense but took no chances by taking a gang of heavy-hitting bikers for protection at the funeral.
A chapter of the feared Outlaws joined forces with the Valley Commandos faction to become the gangster's personal bodyguards for the day. And shaven-headed villains from across the UK were also out in force to back up Dave in case trouble flared.
