Two sides to Hells Angels club

OFF THE WIRE
PITTSFIELD -- The Berkshire County chapter of the Hells Angels is ostensibly a charitable club made up of like-minded motorcycle enthusiasts.
Over the years, they’ve hosted benefits for neighbors in need, they’ve pitched in to remodel a cancer patient’s house, and they even host a "lobsterfest" at their clubhouse in Lee.
Court records, however, paint a different picture of the group’s operations in Berkshire County, detailing allegations that some members meted out beatings, used violent intimidation at will, or forced women into prostitution.
At the center of all this is a Hells Angels member being held in jail on a million-dollar bail.
The Eagle contacted three of the group’s members by phone on Wednesday, but none were willing to discuss the motorcycle club.
"Right now, we have no comment," said member Michael Fox. "And I think you’ll hear that from anyone else you call."
Likewise, no members of the law enforcement community were willing to speak on the record about the Hells Angels. Both the Pittsfield Police Department and the State Police referred questions about the group’s operations to the District Attorney’s office, which declined to discuss the group.
But a 110-page affidavit filed in support of an August 2010 search warrant of member Adam Lee Hall’s home in Peru details the extent to which police have been watching the group.
