Michael Gerard Walsh, a disabled pensioner, pleaded guilty to the offence.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Elder told Maryborough Magistrates Court, police were patrolling on the Bruce Hwy on May 21 and intercepted a group of Outlaw Motorcycle club members. Police conducted breath- and saliva-tests, and Walsh's sample tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in cannabis.
Walsh was convicted and fined $750 and his licence was disqualified for nine months.
Drink driver tried to flee site of crash
AN UNLICENCED driver who crashed his car while drunk tried to escape the consequences by leaving the scene, a court heard last week.
But police quickly caught up with Mark Edward Holyfield, and charged him with driving unlicensed and while under the influence of liquor.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Elder said police were called to a crash at the corner of Alice and Ferry Sts on August 13.
Witnesses told the officers they heard a loud band and saw a man walking towards Station Square.
"Police observed the defendant using a public phone and performed a breath-test which gave a result of 0.197%," Sgt Elder said.
Holyfield, a 33-year-old postal worker, pleaded guilty to the charges.
His defence lawyer Trinity McGarvie told the court Ward was struggling with financial stress and alcohol abuse at the time of the offence, and had since sought help for his drinking.
Ward was convicted, fined $1200 and disqualified for 18 months.
