MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Myrtle Beach City Council will review noise limits as it is being sued by hotel owners, Horry County and motorcycle groups over its 2008 ordinance.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports the council will discuss the issue at Tuesday's meeting.
The city lowered the maximum vehicle noise to 89 decibels from 99 as part of an effort to cut down on issues relating to its two annual motorcycle rallies. The new proposal would raise the noise limit to 92 decibels.
The higher level is in line with standards adopted by the Society of Automotive Engineers and those standards have been endorsed by the American Motorcycle Association.
But, motorcycle group spokesman Pete Horst says his organization is not taking sides on the city's latest noise proposal because of the ongoing lawsuit.
