Boston: Is Sal LaMattina and staff telling tales again?

OFF THE WIRE
Call it what you want: fabricating, telling tales, untruths, exaggerations, or just plain lying. Someone in the North End, where great Italian food is always the order of the day, is serving lotsa baloney. It appears to be city councilor Sal LaMattina and/or staff, and we don't like it!

According to Boston Police, they are not enforcing the motorcycle exhaust pipe ordinance which tickets motorcyclists if a cop doesn't see an EPA stamp on a motorcycles exhaust pipes. However, an administrative assistant to Boston city councilor Sal LaMattina claimed 250 tickets have been written at $300 each. Okay Sal, show us the $75,000 smackers!

Motorcyclists agree with the Boston PD. When's the last time that happened? Huh? Tickets are not being written, and that is what is stopping the court case from commencing. Until someone gets ticketed and gets their name added to the list of respondents, the courts say the bikers have no standing.

If I were a constituent in the North End, or anywhere in Boston, I'd wonder "Hey! What's with this baloney? What is Sal LaMattina going to try and get away with telling people next?

For more information, Shir Haberman has done a good job at reporting this, as the town of North Hampton, NH is also nearing an implementation date of their ordinance which officials in the town admit to be unenforceable. We appreciate factual reporting that gives both sides of an issue, so rather than copying the entire story into this space, (which would be the easy way to go), please read the full story at http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20100702-NEWS-7020325 ... Keep up the good reporting.

Oh, and one more thing...this goes out to Freedom Fighter Bill Gannon. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery! Folks, even as Bill was getting ready, the night before going into the hospital to have surgery on his shoulder, his thoughts were to try to raise money in support of the court case. Please see the new B.O.L.T. Support site for some Boston merchandise. No baloney!
