The Olympic torch relay was delayed today (Saturday 7th July) after a road accident between two motorbikes at 7:40am, which were travelling in the opposite direction as it passed Chelmsford.
The event was set back by about 20 minutes because of the accident on the A414 near Hylands Park. A man and woman involved in the crash were taken to hospital with suspected broken bones.
Celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver, was waiting to take the torch through the Essex village where he went to school. He will be joined by three other torchbearers in Newport as the relay makes its way between Chelmsford and Cambridge.
He studied at Newport Free Grammar School and now lives in Clavering with his wife Jules, daughters Poppy, Daisy and Petal, and son Buddy, while his parents own a pub and restaurant nearby.
David Pickup, 34, from Thetford, Norfolk, joined the chef as he carries the torch through the village. He was chosen because of his work with children and as a role model within his community.

The relay also took to the water today - first on a white water raft at the Lee Valley Games Venue at Waltham Cross and then on a more sedate punt as it winds its way to its last stop of the day in Cambridge.
A spokesman for Essex Police said the torch carriers were able to continue on their journey shortly after the earlier road accident.
