ESCONDIDO ---- Escondido police will hold a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint on Friday from 6 p.m. and until midnight,a police lieutenant said.
Lt. Tom Albergo did not announce the specific location of the checkpoint.
The reason behind the checkpoint is to detect drunken drivers as well as motorist driving with a license that has been suspended or revoked, or who have no driver license at all. It is also part of the department's drunken driving education and public safety efforts.
Funding for the operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
