Sons of Liberty Ride For Their Rights

OFF THE WIRE
By Meredith Ley
(Savannah, Ga.)--The Sons of Liberty are gearing up to ride for, what they say are, their 4th and 14th amendment rights, opposing "checkpoints being set up by the Department of Transportation aimed at motorcycle riders.
It's part of a $70,000 DOT "bike safety" project unveiled today. The Sons of Liberty are riding to South Carolina and back into Georgia in an effort to "gain information" about the checkpoints.
They say that the timing makes them wonder about the DOTs intentions. Daytona Bike Week is kicking off and there will be a large number of bikers traveling through our state.
News 3 reporter Meredith Ley is on the scene and will update information and have a full report tonight on News 3 at 6 p.m.
The 4th Amendment to the Constitution guards against unreasonable search and seizure.
The Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment prohibits state and local governments from depriving persons of life, liberty, or property without certain steps being taken to ensure fairness.
Georgia State Patrol says this is the first day of a two year program to help raise bike safety awareness.
