Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter teases that there may be some key characters from SOA returning for the much-anticipated Mayan’s spin-off. In an interview with Deadline Hollywood, Sutter drops some gripping details about the possible new show, saying just enough to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
The interview, which was supposed to be a promotion for Sutter’s new show, The Bastard Executioner, quickly turned toward the possibility of not only the Mayan’s spin-off, but also to the potential for a First Nine prequel as well. FX Networks has confirmed up to this point that Sutter is developing the Mayans project, that chronicles the Mayans MC. Sutter has recently stated that it will be a contemporary story, that will include characters from the original Sons of Anarchy series.
To Deadline Hollywood, Sutter says:
It’s the same biker subculture, but it would be interesting to see the influences of the Hispanic culture and how it impacts the subculture we already understand. I would place it far enough away from Northern California so that it wouldn’t step on the mythology that’s already been told [in the original series]. It doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be some cool, ironic crossovers with familiar characters as the series progressed. I wouldn’t want to set it too close to the world we already know, and step on that… My intent is, over the hiatus I’ll initiate a script for the pilot and take it from there.”
