 R.I.P. Lance Cpl. David Fenn
WINTER HAVEN, Florida -- A 20-year-old Marine from Polk City who died after a training accident last month was laid to rest on Saturday.
Lance Cpl. David Fenn was one of seven young Marines who was killed when a 60 mm mortar exploded on March 18 during a live fire training exercise in Nevada.
"I just can't believe it. All the people here, all the flags, all the motorcycles," Fenn's great uncle, John Elliott, said about the funeral service in Winter Haven. "This is more than I could ever hope to see."
Fenn joined the Marines right out of high school in 2010, and won several awards for his service. He was last deployed to Afghanistan in 2011.
"He always stayed positive. He was very into the ROTC and that was his main goal," said Destany Price, a friend of Fenn's since elementary school. "He was very dependable. He was very loyal. He respected a lot of people, and he knew what he wanted in life."
The service was also an opportunity for fellow Marines to show that they will never forget.
"This is one of our brothers," said "Bones," the Florida president of the Leathernecks Motorcycle Club, which is made up of active duty and former Marines. "We're out here to show our respect, more than anything. We're also out here to show his family that no matter what, that bond between Marines will always exist."
Fenn was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake Alfred.
