South Carolina - Motorcycle club donates to help with tornado relief
OFF THE WIRE
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV)-- The Swamp Hogs Motorcycle Club donated a truck load of items to the Salvation Army to help with the disaster relief for Joplin, Missouri.
The motorcycle club rolled into the Salvation Army in Moncks Corner on Thursday. The Salvation Army has been continuing disaster relief work for Joplin months after the disaster. Joplin was hit by a devastating tornado back in May of this year.
One of the club members, originally from Oklahoma, says he knows what it's like to face tornados and felt compelled to get his motorcycle riding buddies together to help out.
"There's families out there who have lost everything, not to mention family members, but they've lost their houses and every belonging they've ever owned," said Swamp Hogs Motorcycle Club member and head of donation, Butch Smith.
The Salvation Army said they were very thankful for the generous donation from the motorcycle club, as they are always in need.
"They're a group of guys who love to get together and ride. It's a brotherhood, they take care of each other and more than that, they take care of their neighborhood that they live in," said Captain Tom Richmond of the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army said that when a disaster of this magnitude occurs relief efforts continue for a long time afterwards as is the situation in Joplin, Missouri. The relief organization is currently at the most need for food donations.
