Police watching for outlaw biker gxxxs
RCMP officers from two special units will be joining local police in Kelowna and Salmon Arm this weekend for events expected to draw a large number of outlaw motorcycle gangs. RCMP Sergeant Shinder Kirk says a dozen biker gangs are expected in Salmon Arm for the Sturgis North motorcycle rally and music festival. It's already underway. While members of the public are attending that event, Kirk says there will be a different crowd for this weekend's anniverary of the Kelowna Hells Angels' chapter. ``That is a much more exclusive type of company that will go to that event,'' says Kirk. ``Those will be individuals, either members of outlaw motorcycle groups or, in fact, associates.'' He says the Outlaw Motorcycle Gang Enforcement and Intelligence Unit and the Uniformed Gang Task Force will hold street checks and vehicle inspections at both events. ``This is all in the interest of public safety, going out and monitoring these events so everyone attending them can do so in safety,'' says Kirk.
