Glendale police to crackdown on motorcyclists
By Veronica Rocha, veronica.rocha@latimes.com
July 26, 2011 | 8:56 a.m. Police plan to crack down on riders who violate traffic laws in the city Sunday as part of a motorcycle safety operation.
Officers will step up patrol in city neighborhoods where riders are known to frequent. Police will also focus on areas with the highest number of motorcycle-involved collisions.
Officials said the grant-funded operation is aimed at reducing the number of collisions, injuries and fatalities among motorcyclists.
Five motorcyclists were killed from 2003 to 2010 in Glendale, according to the Police Department. Another 151 riders were injured during the same period.
Most motorcycle-involved collisions stem from speeding, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and unsafe turning, according to the Department.
