Authorities keep a high profile as Hell's Angels come to town

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department upped its profile in Alpine Friday in light of a weekend gathering of Hells Angels.

Authorities said about a dozen additional patrol cars were working the semi-rural town as a precaution. No serious incidents involving the legendary motorcycle club had been reported late Friday.
"It's just an added presence to make sure all goes well," said a department spokesman.
Tyler Smittle, general manager of the Ayres Inn in Alpine, said 60 members of the club planned to stay at his hotel Friday night and visit the nearby Viejas Casino.
He described it as an overnight stop that has become part of a club tradition. The 100-room hotel frequently hosts motorcycle groups, including out-of-state bikers.
