NTSB chair outlines safety goals for Florida
The Associated Press TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida officials are about to learn firsthand how they're doing on dealing with critical highway safety issues.
The head of the National Transportation Safety Board, Deborah Hersman, will discuss the federal government's "most wanted" list of safety improvements it's mapped out for Florida highways.
Hersman will talk Wednesday about NTSB's progress on child booster seats, primary seat belt enforcement, drinking and driving, motorcycle safety and distractions for young, inexperienced drivers. She also plans to take questions from reporters during a scheduled half-hour stopover.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety said last month that 2,430 people were kill on the state's roadways last year, 133 fewer than in 2009.
