CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer was shot and killed along with a suspect in what authorities say was an apparent robbery attempt on the city's South Side.
Police say the off-duty officer was riding a motorcycle around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached by several people who were apparently trying to rob him.
Police say there was an exchange of gunfire in which the three-year veteran officer was killed.
News affairs police officer Amina Greer says one suspect was fatally shot and another was injured and is in custody.
The officer's name has not been released and Greer says police are investigating whether others were involved in the shooting.
