AUSTRALIA - Focarelli bail-breach case deferred

OFF THE WIRE
Bikie leader Vince Focarelli remains in jail after an Adelaide court dashed his hopes of having his breach-of-bail case heard. The 37-year-old appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link from prison on Friday - hoping to hear his lawyer argue there was no case to answer over his alleged breaches of bail.
"Please, your honour," Focarelli said, addressing Magistrate Bob Harrap.
The charges were laid after Focarelli took phone calls from a fellow bikie, the court was told.
Mr Harrap relisted the matter for May 24, a day before Focarelli is due in court on a drugs charge, so it can be dealt with by a magistrate who has heard the case before.
Focarelli, the self-appointed local leader of the Comanchero bikie gxxg, has been in custody since he was wounded in a shooting attack in January that killed his son, Giovanni, 22.
Focarelli was also shot last year and was the target of a failed bomb attack in 2010 by two men linked to the Hells Angels, who were killed when their bomb exploded in their car.
All his bail applications have been rejected for fears for his safety and that of the community. He will be brought to the court on May 24 if he needs to give evidence.
