RECALLS:

OFF THE WIRE

There is a recall underway for 122,000 motorcycles manufactured by BMW. It is due to a potential brake problem.
A spokesperson for BMW announced that thankfully there had not been any incidents for the brake problem, and that only a minor number of complaints had been received for the issue.
Some of the BMW motorcycles that were produced from August 2006 to May of 2009 were the bikes needing recalled for repair, some of which had already previously been recalled for brake system issues.
The braking system on some of these motorcycles have already been checked and repaired accordingly, yet the problem has not been entirely cured.
The number of motorcycles being brought back in for the recall is attributed to be one third of BMW motorcycles manufactured between the two dates of August 2006, to May of 2009.
BMW believes that only a small portion of the motorcycles are afflicted with the brake system issue that have been recalled.
The models of the BMW motorcycles caught up in the recall are:
* R 1200 GS Adventure * R 1200 GS * R 1200 R * R 1200 RT * R 1200 ST * K 1200 GT
Dealerships had been contacted by BMW concerning the continuing faults of the brake system. The owners of the models that had not been contacted by their dealership should be receiving a letter in the mail within a few days, stated a company spokesperson.
According to letters received by British riders of the bikes state that vibration can cause brake lines on the front of motorcycles to deform and develop leaks, which of will allow brake fluid to seep, or leak out prematurely rendering the brake system eventually inoperable.
BMW states the bikes are safe to ride, granted you keep an eye on the brake fluid level and monitor for faulty brake lines before you take it in for repair.
