Apparently the FBI has had a lot of troubles when trying to monitor Gmail, Google Voice, and Dropbox in real-time. They have been getting shot down due to the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, which does not force ISPs or phone companies to install surveillance equipment for these types of services. Monitoring email, cloud, and chat services is essential, because "Those communications are being used for criminal conversations." The FBI is going to push with all of their might to fix that this year, making it a "top priority." Because you and I send email to each other via Gmail's servers, which are using SSL encryption, it doesn't make it easy, but not impossible, to monitor. Instant access is what they want!
Despite the pervasiveness of law enforcement surveillance of digital communication, the FBI still has a difficult time monitoring Gmail, Google Voice, and Dropbox in real time. But that may change soon, because the bureau says it has made gaining more powers to wiretap all forms of Internet conversation and cloud storage a “top priority” this year.COMMENT,
