Riverside operation puts focus on motorcycle safety

The Riverside Police Department on Thursday, March 28, will have a special enforcement operation in which it will target drivers who illegally operate motorcycles. It will take place in areas prone to motorcycle crashes and fatalities.
Riverside Sgt. Skip Showalter mentioned that the state is doing more to track motorcycle crashes, so we are trying to learn more about that — what the plans are for the information — for a story for Thursday. We’ll also crunch the crash statistics for the Inland Empire.
Statewide, the number of motorcycles registered almost doubled from 2011 to 2010. The number of deaths and injuries has decreased, however, and we will try to find out why.
