I bought a 2008 Big Bear Sled Chopper brand new from a dealer. I had to sell it after 1,000 miles. It was junk ! Spent more time getting fixed for stupid crap. They don’t stand behind their bikes. I took a $12,000 loss. Makes me sick still to this day. What goes around comes around…

FYI: It doesn’t matter whether the Alsop’s repay every dime they allegedly took by hook or crook. They may still be guilty of several crimes and can be brought to trial for those alleged crime(s). Think about it: If you rob a bank and then once you are cornered by the law you say “Never mind, the bank can have their money back. No harm no foul.” Nope, that doesn’t work. The only up side to the Alsop’s returning any monies to their alleged victims is something that can be included in their presentence investigation prior to sentencing, nothing more.

I have been prodding around on the internet and it is amazing to see how much damage that BBC has done. This link http://www.sturgis.com/content/index.php/bblogs/entry/blabb/rage-choppersisnt-that-a-big-bear-model.html is making me wonder if BBC did in fact send their equipment “elsewhere” in order to operate under a different name.
As for the FBI, I have sent them a report, but because my contract is through American Motorcycles in Tacoma, WA, most of the issues will have to be dealt with by my builders. What I did get from the Feds was that I have pertinent information and “information is being gathered”. Decipher that if you can.
I too wonder if Chris Angel knows what kind of mess BBC is in. While I was overseas, my wife took it upon herself to call BBC two weeks before the Big Bear Ride The Mountain event. During that conversation, neither Kevin or Mona knew where my invoice was…they soon found it and told her that they would be able to fill our order within the week. Mona then went as far as inviting us to the Ride The Mountain and would give us their lake house for a week for the “inconvenience” of everything. Obviously, you know I never got all the parts, I was overseas, so the invitation would not be “rain checked”, and yet another “Mind Freak” motorcycle comes off the assembly line.
It is a shame that Kevin and Mona were far more worried about background appearances on “Sons of Anarchy” then worrying about taking care of a paying customer and people who supported them to include the City of Big Bear.

This is a repeat of the Choppers Unlimited and Midwest Choppers fraud cases, only on a bigger scale. It sucks to have people like this giving the custom motorcycle world a bad name. I can only hope the Alsops will be brought to justice and their victims will either get what they paid for or get a full refund. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

When all the dust settles over this and Kevin and Mona Et al. wind up going to trial for fraud and other crimes I will take time off from work just to set in the court room and smile at them each day until they are sentenced and I get to watch them taken out of the court room in handcuffs and off to prison! And what a smile I will be wearing on that day!

I don’t know about you all, but, I went to war for people like you and the Alsops to have the right to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I will grant you it ain’t looking good and it is shitty what they have done… But let the courts sort it out

Sincerely, I really do appreciate your service to this country and what it stands for. It just gets frustrating to know how slow the law works sometimes especially when you know you have been ripped off and seeing how long it takes to finally see justice come. I’ve been waiting for this for over 3 years personally, my story is a bit different from most here but still I got screwed and like I said, I will be setting in the court room when justice is finally delivered on them!

Thank you for your service Sir! Like you, I served honorably during the Vietnam War myself and believe in our god given rights first and foremost.
Do your research back to the late 90′s. Kevin and Mona have sued, screwed, blued and tattooed damn near everyone in their paths that is involved in the industry to include any companys most valuable assets…THEIR CUSTOMERS! Just look at the soldiers herein that they have ripped off as an added example?
Sir, you can rest assured….They will get get justice and it will be served up to them in heaping abundance if I can assist.

Years back when WCC bikes were red tagged in CA; a group well monied Malibu guys with 120K bikes rotting in airplane hangers were on the verge of a Class Action Law Suit for assets which quickly became liabilities. WCC corrected the issue, yet it sent a wave of trepidation across a finite amount of money customers, all with smart accountants and lawyers. That crowd has moved on to the Ducati Carbon Fiber exotic bikes and they even took a loose when they parted with their 75 bikes. But to them, they could afford it. In this instance the customer exposure is far worse. I feel awful for the guys who worked hard just to afford the entry point of a custom. Its likely that money will never be recovered.
One Suggestion: Talk to a CPA to see what your options are on writing off the loss.
Regarding the Alsops:
The real sleeping giant here is the IRS. Nothing trumps it. No court in the land will oppose IRS sanctions and rulings. To what extent the IRS is involved in auditing and investigating the assets of the Alsops is where my curiosity lies. Levys and Liens on personal holdings, freezing of offshore accounts(offshore monies in this instance can fall under FBI jurisdiction), fake DBAs, etc. The web of corruption is likely wide and deep, layered over the years to allow for the Alsop Exit Strategy. I doubt we will ever hear about them again.
IN THE END:
Real “Choppers” are not production bikes. We all know this. Buying a production “Chopper”, kit bikes or whatever….Caveat Emptor. Once BBC went production, it was eminent this would all happen. The market would crater, the business owners would flee…..the story has repeated itself many times over.
If you still have the stomach for a real chopper, take the time to understand the subculture of real artisans who build them to ride. Humbly ask for their guidance and if you are lucky, you might end up with a real chop that can be ridden across the US, and stand the test of trends.

Badams. Great comment. Regarding the IRS, I agree. It should be involved because I also think that business people acting this way have an exit strategy and consequently organize well in advance a financial scheme to hide money from creditors. Where is the cash received? Did it go on a US business account, a personal one? Money wire transfers made to other banks, in the US or abroad? Holding/Trust company with shares in BBC organized in a tax heaven place? Etc… Worth to look at the books. Also, those who have given a check to BBC should look in the back to know which bank/account number their checks were deposited to. A lot to dig to establish premeditation, if there was one, for a supposedly immune exit strategy by the Alsops. Yes, the IRS can look for money hidden abroad, if any. By the way, if Australian born Kevin would be found having committed a felony and is a US resident only in possession of a Green Card, after being judged, condemned and doing time, he will be deported from the US, even if his wife is US citizen. She can go live with him somewhere else. Then, he will never be able to re-enter the US, even as tourist…If somebody would steal from me I would not hesitate to pursue all means to get justice done.

As a side note to all of this, there are currently (at last count) around 900 or so 2004, 2005 and some 2006 BBC motorcycles that are still in need of having the neck weld recall performed on them. Each bike requires nearly $5,000.00 worth of repairs before they are “safe” to ride. What happens now to those 900 BBC owners who are also left out in the cold with no recourse?? Wonder if they can claim fraud since their “lifetime” frame warranties are no longer valid?

Big Bear Sheriff’s Station Encouraging Reports On Alleged Multiple Frauds By Big Bear Choppers’ Kevin And Mona Alsop.

Since my 2 reports on Big Bear Choppers Suspending Operations in early November followed by an Update On The Event, close to total of 550 comments were posted by my readers regarding motorcycles ordered, paid in full or in part, some 1 year ago, some 1 month before the Alsops disappeared from their facility in Big Bear Lake, CA. How many bikes and bike kits were ordered directly or through a BBC dealer, were paid and never delivered to customers in the US and abroad, is the question to which the District Attorney’s Office wants an answer before deciding or not to file criminal charges against Kevin & Mona Alsop and maybe some close collaborators if also involved in a fraud scheme to take payments without intending to build the promised motorcycles and kits.

For now, as a first step, the case remains with the Sheriff’s Department where detective Lonnie Siebert encourage all those who paid for a motorcycle or bike kit months ago and are still waiting for delivery or for a refund to contact him at 909-866-0100. How big and widespread is the alleged fraud by Big Bear Choppers? How many victims were asked to pay deposits at a time when the Alsops already knew they would close their business? Will the District Attorney decide to file criminal charges against them? We will know very soon and the Big Bear Choppers saga may be again the big story of January 2012.
During this time the Big BearChoppers website is still live, but the logo sign front of their facility has been covered with paint. At this day, no vandalism report has been filed with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
