Anti-corruption police face probe

Three officers of the British Metropolitan police's anti corruption unit are paradoxically under investigation for corruption over hiding evidence to help six other policemen escape racis attack charges.
The three officers from the Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) have allegedly withheld vital evidence in the trial of six of their colleagues who faced prosecutors over a racist attack on a group of young people.
During a secret hearing in London last week, the DPS men emerged to have blocked the release of the CCTV footage of the attack helping the six officers on trial to be cleared of racist assault charges.
Now the three face criminal charges over the case brought by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Kingston Crown Court acquitted six members of Scotland Yard's Territorial Support Group of racist attack and related charges back in 2009.
One of the group, PC Mark Jones, was charged with racially aggravated common assault while five of his colleagues faced the court over allegations that they covered up the incident.
The six officers were accused of taking several teenagers to their van in a racist attack where they beat and taunted the teens.
The van driver, PC Amechi Onwugbonu, stood witness against Jones at the time but the jury decided that the footage presented at the court did not support his evidence and the six were cleared.
The officers later filed a lawsuit against the Met over race discrimination but the judge overseeing their case was told of the IPCC investigation and ruled that the case should be suspended under further notice.
The IPCC said they have submitted the investigation case to the Crown Prosecution Service for examination. “A file has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service for its consideration,” an IPCC spokesman said.
