The source of that cacophony ---- beautiful music to the ears of gear and metal heads alike ---- is the Help Ride Bike Show & Music Festival.
The third annual event, which helps raise money for local nonprofits, is being held for the second straight year at Quaid Temecula Harley-Davidson, the Harley dealership and service center at 28964 Old Town Front St.
Corinna Coram, event coordinator with Golden Crown Productions, said this year's Ride will kick off with a poker run. Registration for the run is from 8 to 10 a.m. The $25 entry fee also serves as admission to the venue, which runs $15 for folks 16 and older. Anyone 15 and under is admitted free.
The event is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and there will be around 50 vendors: people selling motorcycle gear, food, beer, wine and other products.
For entertainment, Golden Crown has lined up a roster of hair metal legends: Gilby Clarke of Guns n' Roses, Erik Turner from Warrant, Bobby Blotzer from RATT and Adler's Appetite featuring Steven Adler of Guns n' Roses. There also will be performances by Creedence Relived and Old School.
For those wondering about the early wrap time, Coram said many bikers don't want to ride after dark and many people likely will be headed to Halloween parties that night.
And for those who aren't going to parties, they might want to cruise into Old Town, as many of the area's restaurants are doing costume parties and contests, she said.
"Old Town Saturday will be full of costumed adults," she said.
In addition to the music, the Help Ride features a tattoo contest and bike show, allowing folks to scope out custom rides and custom human bodies.
The Help Ride was created to give Southwest County an event on par with the Love Ride, the annual gathering of motorcycle riders that generates thousands for charity.
The first event was held in Old Town in 2009, with the concerts at Quaid's Harley dealership but the time of the year ---- August ---- proved problematic as the temperature cracked 100 degrees.
The event was moved to October last year and Coram said that worked much better for the riders and music fans.
Rich Quaid of Quaid Temecula Harley-Davidson said the Help Ride brings in a lot of people and helps introduce them to his dealership.
But he said the more important part of his relationship with the event is the charitable outreach.
One of the charities that benefits from the Help Ride is All From The Heart, a nonprofit Quaid supports that runs an annual Christmas program for local military families and Wheels for Warriors. The Wheels program matches up injured veterans with donated motorized wheelchairs.
The other charity linked to the event, Quaid said, is Black Sheep, a Christian Harley-Davidson motorcycle club that gives aid to fellow Harley riders in need.
