Officer Accused Of Failing To Arrest Assistant State Attorney.......
A police officer is accused of giving a state attorney a ride home instead of arresting him on a drunken driving charge.
Investigators with the Mount Dora Police Department have launched an investigation into Officer Chuck Gregory.
Video from a dashboard camera in Gregory's police car showed him pull over Assistant State Attorney William Gula early Saturday morning.
Gula refused to take a field sobriety test, but he was not arrested.
Gregory drove Gula home instead and filed a report of the incident to his superiors.
Mount Dora Police Chief Randy Scoggins said he was not happy with how Gregory handled the case, but Scoggins said Gula was charged with criminal drunken driving.
Scoggins stopped short of saying Gregory showed favoritism.
"He told the driver that night, 'You're going to be held accountable for this. I'm going to go right back and report this to my chief, and the state attorney will find out,'" Scoggins said.
Gula has been suspended from his job pending the outcome of the investigation.
