LOS ANGELES - A preliminary hearing starts today for two reputed gang members accused of fatally shooting three men and wounding seven people outside a Pico Rivera pizza parlor on June 27, 2009.
John Perez, 44, of Pico Rivera and Rudy Ruiz, 32, of Whittier were charged with the murders of Carlos Carrera, 39, of La Habra, Garret Dandini, 25, of Whittier and Tony Dandini, 39, of Whittier.
Both suspects are also charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder and seven counts of attempted murder.
The prosecution alleges Perez and Ruiz personally used a gun to commit the crimes, intentionally fired the weapons and committed the shooting for the benefit of and at the direction of a street gang.
The Old School Riders, a motorcycle group with no gang ties, was holding a benefit dinner outside Falcone's Pizza at 9247 Slauson Ave. on June 27, 2009 when two armed men started firing into the crowd.
